EASP Small Meeting 2026
ConferenceHERMES presented two talks at the EASP Small Meeting in Granada, exploring how narratives of migrant collective action and Indigenous empowerment shape solidarity, emotions, and real-world ally behaviour.

Title: EASP Small Meeting 2026
Date: 04.02.2026
Location: Granada, Spain
Organizer: Social Change Lab and European Association of Social Psychology (EASP)
We had the pleasure of travelling to Granada for the EASP Small Meeting on "Broadening our understanding of alliances for social change: conflict and cooperation as independent and co-existing" – hosted at the Mind, Brain, and Behavior Research Center.
Over two days, we explored how different groups come together to fight inequality, when cooperation works, and when conflict becomes necessary. The HERMES team contributed two talks, sharing findings from our ongoing work on narratives, emotions, and solidarity.
Talk 1: Migrant empowering voices
We presented data from a large-scale study (1,560 participants) testing how narratives of migrant collective action versus individual affect host-culture members.
Talk 2: Indigenous narratives in Peru
We took our work to Peru, where Indigenous peoples face structural inequality rooted in colonial legacies. A nationwide study (N = 945) showed that empowerment narratives work through admiration, while resignation narratives work through compassion. Both shifted emotions and individual support, but neither directly increased support for transformative, empowerment-oriented action – a puzzle we are still working on.
Huge thanks to the EASP organisers for bringing us together. Granada, we will be back.
